I love my friends. I thank God everyday because I believe that He has given me incredible friends in that I don't question their support of me. But let's be real. Even though most of us have a group of good friends, there are still moments of deep sadness and loneliness. We are surrounded with people but inside is empty and deserted.
How could this be? How could you be in a room full of people and feel so alone? I wonder about that because I know it is a feeling that many of us feel in this generation. That's why I will adopt what I call the "Table for 1 Practice". When I asked God why I feel this way sometines, I felt Him say that it's because I just can't be content being by myself. You see, being with people is great. It is important for us to have other humans to connect with but there are times where we must be alright with being alone. More importantly, we should welcome it.
Many of us cringe at the idea of going to a restaurant and asking the host/hostess for a "table for one". You'd feel like the new kid on the first day of school who has no one to sit with at lunch. A great deal of us would never want to go to a movie alone. We've been conditioned to make these activities ones that we partake in with a group of people. But what happens is that you never have the chance to truly be alone.
I challenge all my readers to take time to do these things alone. Go to the park and sit on the bench by yourself. Go to the movies alone. Go to a restaurant and ask for a table for one.
What I love about having a relationship with Jesus is that you're never really alone anyway. It's in the moments that I spend with Him that I realize that I am the happiest I can be. Only with Him.
He is always there. Not in a creepy way. Not in a controlling way. But in a comforting way. He never leaves us alone because He loves us. So if you're someone who feels alone quite often maybe you should look into your relationship with him. Have you been applying the Table for 1 practice? If you haven't made that commitment to believe in Jesus, then you're missing out on the best part of life. When you have a relationship with Him, he's like a ride or die best friend who never disappoints you.
